On March 21, the Reanimation Package of Reforms held the reforms breakfast “Financial Evolution of Ukrainian Parties: Reform or Imitation?” (for diplomats, representatives of international institutions and foreign correspondents).
The event was dedicated to the topic of implementation of the Law on Prevention and Counteraction to Political Corruption, which came into force in July 2016. Due to this Law that launched the mechanism of state financing of political parties, Ukrainian parties are now obliged to submit their quarterly financial reports, which has finally allowed the public to receive information about sources of funding and revenues of political parties. At the same time, transparent financial assistance from the state provides Ukrainian political parties with an opportunity to start the process of their internal transformation and institutional development.
So have the parties become more transparent over the course of implementation of this Law? What tendencies of annual reports submission exist among the key political forces? What are the main expenses of political parties and how the allocated state funds are being used? Finally, what goals and objectives are set for Ukrainian political parties, state and civil society for 2017?
These and other questions were discussed by the RPR experts:
Viktor Taran, Head of the Center for Political Studies and Analysis ‘Eidos’, Member of the RPR Board;
Oleksiy Koshel, Head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine.
The results of the analysis of the level of political parties’ integrity, including the unknown facts of their financial activities along with an online tool for monitoring of party finances were presented at the event.
Presentation, prepared by the Centre “EIDOS” and conducted by Viktor Taran, is available HERE.
