Completion of the Screening Stage of Ukrainian Legislation for EU Compliance

Today marks the completion of the screening stage of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU law. EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has arrived in Kyiv, and on October 1 the results of the screening will be discussed with the Ukrainian side.

The RPR Coalition welcomes this news and reminds: Ukraine has already fulfilled its part of the work required to open the first negotiation cluster. Now it is the EU’s turn to do its part — including overcoming certain internal resistance that carries no constructive value for either party but rather serves the interests of an external player.

During her conversation with Suspilne journalists, Marta Kos added that Ukraine needs to adopt an action plan regarding national minorities, and that Ukraine’s accession to the EU is the best opportunity to resolve the issues concerning national communities.

“It is a great honor for me to help Ukraine join the EU. We are, for the first time, negotiating the accession of a country that is at war. You are fighting for peace and security in the EU, not only in Ukraine. There can be no security and freedom in the European Union without a safe and free Ukraine as part of the EU,” emphasized the EU Commissioner for Enlargement.

Only through cooperation can we achieve solutions that will strengthen both Ukraine in its status as a candidate country and the European Union itself. We call on all participants in the process to maintain momentum and not stop at what has already been achieved.
