Civil society and government strengthen cooperation on the way to the EU

The Reanimation Package of Reforms Coalition and the Union of NGOs joined the meeting of the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and the East Europe Foundation to deepen cooperation for Ukraine’s dynamic European integration.

The discussion was attended by representatives of civil society, think tanks, and donor organizations.

Olga Lymar, Executive Director of the Coalition, is convinced: “Ukraine has demonstrated a unique approach to the formation of negotiating groups with the EU, involving representatives of Ukrainian civil society in the work. It is not the government that is joining the European Union, but the entire state and society. Therefore, cooperation of the main actors – CSOs, state institutions, business and international partners – is the key to successful preparation for accession.”

“Recognizing the large-scale challenges we face in the context of Ukraine’s accession to the EU, last year we launched the European HUB as a platform for dialogue and joint work of government, civil society, and business. This is where negotiating teams prepare for bilateral meetings in Brussels, where roadmaps are prepared and next steps are discussed,” confirms Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration. The Minister of Justice of Ukraine thanked the participants: “We are grateful to all our partners who supported this initiative and are building this platform together with us.”

Over the course of nine months, nearly 90 events and meetings took place at EuropeanHUB. These included preparatory meetings for screening sessions, the Ukraine-EU screening meetings themselves, roadmap development sessions, consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, as well as training sessions and workshops aimed at strengthening expertise.

Vira Nedzvedska, Vice President for Strategic Partnerships at the East Europe Foundation, emphasized: “The success of European integration depends on our ability to act cohesively, seek common solutions, be honest and proactive, build effective institutions, and pursue reforms and change. On behalf of the East Europe Foundation, I want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the activities of this space, which is designed to help us achieve these goals.”

During the meeting, participants discussed key tasks and challenges facing the government and the non-governmental sector, as well as the future activities of EuropeanHUB. These include strengthening the capacity of the Chief Negotiator, fostering dialogue and cooperation with all stakeholders, and attracting necessary expertise.
