The Committee on Legal Policy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has recommended Yulia Kyrychenko, Co-Chair of the Board of the Reanimation Package of Reforms Coalition (RPR Coalition) and a member of the Board of the Centre of Policy and Legal Reform, as a candidate for the position of Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine (CCU).
The RPR Coalition welcomes the Committee’s decision and looks forward to the subsequent appointment by the Parliament, as the Verkhovna Rada is responsible for selecting two new judges of the CCU.
Along with Yulia Kyrychenko, the following candidates also received positive recommendations:
Zakhar Tropin — Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Representation at the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine;
Oksana Klymenko — Senior Scientific Advisor at the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada on Legal Policy Issues;
Taras Tsymbalisty — Prosecutor at the Office of the Prosecutor General.
Earlier, these candidates were also endorsed by the Advisory Group of Experts.
The Constitutional Court is a key element of Ukraine’s legal system, ensuring reform stability and legal certainty. According to experts from DEJURE Foundation, this time the selection process was conducted publicly and with the participation of independent experts — a positive precedent. All four candidates have the necessary professional qualifications and solid reputations.
