EU membership is still achivable. How Ukraine can restore trust in negotiations with Europe. Column for the European Pravda

Ukraine has a rare chance to join the EU – such a “window of opportunity” appears once every 20 years. This is what Ivan Nagornyak, Head of European Integration at EasyBusiness, Liubov Akulenko, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Centre for European Policy, and Viktoriya Melnyk, Coordinator of European Integration at the Centre of Policy and Legal Reform, wrote in their column for European Pravda.

However, after the adoption of the scandalous law on 22 July, confidence in us in Europe was shaken. This has complicated the negotiations and strengthened the positions of those countries that had previously been hiding behind the Hungarian veto.

To restore consensus and demonstrate its seriousness, Ukraine has to take several key steps: fulfil its previous commitments, ensure that laws are signed on time, reform the civil service, ensure the work of the Constitutional Court, and start implementing the obligations under the Roadmaps now.
