The members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on the Corruption Prevention and Counteraction from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc insist that the auditor of the National Anticorruption Bureau should be selected in violation of the competition procedure. In particular, the MPs call for adopting a decision on the candidate without holding the interviews with the applicants running for this office, as required.
We believe that holding of the interviews is a critical step in the selection of the NABU’s auditor. Only open interviews can show whether the candidates have an unbiased approach to the activity of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine and whether they can conduct audit in line with the international standards.
We would like to stress that selection of the NABU auditor without conducting any interviews with the candidates undermines the trust of the public and the international partners of Ukraine, which will also cast doubts on the forthcoming results of the audit.
The Anticorruption Group of the Reanimation Package of Reforms calls on the members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on the Corruption Prevention and Counteraction to hold open interviews with all the candidates to the commission in charge of the NABU audit and to recommend the candidates for appointment based on the results of these interviews.
