More than three weeks have passed since the Government appointed sufficient number of members of the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP) so it could start its work. However, one of the key conditions necessary to launch the newly established anti-corruption body has not been met yet. The Government has failed to provide an office for the NACP.
An office should have been provided in line with the State Program on the Implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy approved by the Government back in April 2015.
A delay with allocating the office for the Agency puts under risk the swift launch of a new system of electronic declarations. The latter is a condition for a visa-free regime with the EU and implementation of the IMF co-operation program.
It also prevents the NACP from implementing the law on transparency of political parties financing and performing other important functions in the anti-corruption area.
Therefore, we call on the Government to provide the NACP as soon as possible with an office, where the Agency could move in immediately and which would be suitable for Agency to effectively fulfill its powers related, in particular, to the maintaining an electronic register of declarations of public officials.
