Live Broadcasts from the Parliament Are Back!

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted draft law No. 13719, which provides for the resumption of live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions on the “Rada” TV channel. The legislative initiative was supported by 266 members of parliament, according to Detector Media. The document now awaits the signature of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

At the same time, MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak clarified that the decision to resume parliamentary broadcasts starting today, September 4, was not supported—only 146 MPs voted in favor. Therefore, the “Rada” TV channel will begin broadcasting parliamentary sessions only in mid-September.

Yurii Mykytiuk, Head of Regional Programs at the Reanimation Package of Reforms Coalition, noted: “Resuming live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions is a long-overdue and necessary step. The authorities are compelled to search for solutions within the coordinates of both security and openness. Ultimately, the restoration of Rada session broadcasts is an important signal that, despite the war, state institutions are able to respond to the demands of the active part of society. This decision benefits both citizens and members of parliament.”

For context, the Verkhovna Rada suspended live broadcasts of its sessions after Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022 due to security concerns.
