What is needed for the development of competition in Ukraine

The Centre for Economic Strategy (CES) in cooperation with the Reanimation Package of Reforms (RPR) would like to invite you to participate in the panel discussion on “What is needed for the development of competition in Ukraine”. This event will be held on April 26 at 15.00 – 16.30 in the press-center of Ukraine Crisis Media Center (address: Ukrainian House, European Square, 2 Khreshchatyk Street, Kyiv).

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine has developed a document “The Way to Prosperity” defining the basic principles of economic reform in Ukraine. One of the five principles is free and fair competition. Market competition provides the lowest prices and highest quality for consumers. Competition between companies leads to improvement of production efficiency and allows to develop better products, services and technologies through innovation. All these conditions lead to economic growth and improved welfare of citizens.

CES has analysed the best world practices, the Ukrainian situation and prepared its own vision of the strategy for implementation of competition policy in Ukraine. CES experts believe that competition policy in Ukraine should be considered focussing on four areas: natural monopolies and related markets, anticompetitive practices of companies in the market, regulatory restrictions of competition, state aid and competitive neutrality. CES and RPR are initiating a discussion with representatives of public authorities (Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine(AMCU)), members of parliament, economists, scientists, the expert community and media in order to develop recommendations to put to the government.
