The judicial branch of power has not been reformed after the Revolution of Dignity. The level of credibility to the courts and judges in Ukraine broke antirecord this year, as only 1% of Ukrainian citizens fully trust the Ukrainian court system. At the same time, according to the data of the recent opinion polls, the judicial reform alongside the anti-corruption one are of top priority for the Ukrainians. A number of laws adopted after the regime of Yanukovych had been overthrown failed to yield the expected results, despite their pompous titles: “On securing the right to fair trial” or “On restoring credibility of the judiciary.”

Today, with the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the judiciary being drafted, it is important to publicly discuss these amendments, so that they would support a real judicial reform, as well as meet the public demands. To discuss these urgent issues, we invite you to take part in the forum “Virtuous and Apolitical Themis Through the Constitutional Amendments.” Leading experts-constitutionalists, members of the Constitutional Commission, judges of the Constitutional Court, People’s Deputies of Ukraine, experts of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, ambassadors of foreign countries, and representatives of the international technical assistance programs will participate in the event.

We hope that an open expert discussion with the participation of media will give impetus to a proper development of amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in part of the judiciary. A wide-ranging discussion will help settle the problematic issues concerning the Constitutional amendments, as well as guarantee legitimacy of the renewed Constitution and public support of the judicial reform implementation.
