Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to the Reanimation Package of Reforms media-breakfast “What Are the Main Policy Roadblocks of Energy Sector Reform?”, organized for foreign correspondents, representatives of the embassies and international institutions, which will be held on Friday, January, 29, at 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the office of the Reanimation Package of Reforms initiative (6 Olhynska St., office 21, Kyiv, Ukraine).
According to recent polls, conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, increase in tariffs for housing utilities was named by 75,1% of respondents as the most significant consiquence of current economic crisis. In fact, energy independence of the entire country, as well as family budgets of tens of millions of Ukrainian citizens, depend on the energy sector reform. At the same time, current system of state support for citizens proved to be ineffective: instead of investing money in energy saving measures and thermal modernization, the state sends down the throat billions of hryvnyas via subsidies.
How to ensure total metering of all utilies which are provided to customers? What are the challenges in ensuring independency of state regulator of energy markets? How to optimize current system of subsidizing?
These and other questions will be discussed at the media-breakfast by the speakers:
1. Victoria Voytsitska, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety;
2. Svyatoslav Pavlyuk,leading expert of the RPR on energy sector reform;
3. Andriy Zinchenko, manager of the RPR expert group on energy sector reform.
