Reforms breakfast ‘Amendments to the Constitution Regarding Judiciary and Anticorruption Courts: Mission Possible?’ is scheduled for 9:30 AM, 26th of May, at the office of the Reanimation Package of Reforms (6 Olhynska St., 2nd floor, office 21) and co-organized by Transparency International Ukraine. Experts on the judicial reform and anticorruption will talk openly about the current state of the constitutional process, the possible voting for the amendments to the Constitution the next plenary week and the proposed model for the specialized anticorruption court. The working language of the event is English.
Will Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine vote for the Constitutional amendments the next plenary week? Do the provisions envisaged in the implementation laws guarantee the independence and integrity of judges? Is it possible to create a fully independent Anticorruption court? These and other questions will be answered by the following experts:
Oleksii Khmara – Director of Transparency International Ukraine;
Anastasia Krasnosilska – Advocacy officer for Anticorruption Action Center;
Mykhailo Zhernakov – leading expert on judicial reform of Reanimation Package of Reforms.
Whether Ukraine will become a state of open access to and rule of law depends on the success of the judicial reform, a big part of which lies in the amendments to the Constitution and the peculiarities of the implementation laws. As the issue of renewal of the judiciary is one of the key aspects of the reform, it is crucial to guarantee that the new judges and courts are independent form the political power and the respective mechanisms are envisaged in the law.
It is also crucial to establish the independent Anticorruption court with participation of internationals to address the issue of grand corruption.
